Micheál has experience on both contentious and non-contentious construction law matters across the legal jurisdictions in Northern Ireland, Ireland and England & Wales dealing with an array of complex commercial issues under all the standard forms, and many bespoke forms, of construction contracts.

Micheál has also represented clients across all forms of alternative dispute resolution proceedings and he has a particular interest in adjudication, having acted as a party representative for both referring and responding parties in adjudications under the statutory schemes in Northern Ireland, Ireland, England & Wales and Scotland.

Diana has extensive experience advising on a variety of construction issues, from due diligence investigations to post-closing matters. Her expertise includes drafting and reviewing bespoke construction contracts for employers, main contractors, and subcontractors across various jurisdictions. She is particularly well-versed in standard forms of contract such as NEC, JCT, FIDIC, and PWC, and she regularly provides training on these forms.

Claire regularly provides advice on both contentious and non-contentious procurement issues and works on behalf of contracting authorities to draft, implement and manage entire procurement processes.  This experience has included every stage from advising on strategy, market engagement, publishing notices, drafting PQQ and ITT documents, managing clarifications, marking tender submissions and drafting Regulation 6 notices.

Claire has experience in the management of PWC, FIDIC and NEC contracts.  Claire’s understanding of technical issues associated with the construction industry, coupled with her practical knowledge of the law and dispute resolution, ensures that she is ideally placed to evaluate and advise upon contractual issues faced by both client and contractor.  Claire regularly reviews contracts on behalf of clients to assist them in mitigating their risk and exposure.

Claire has also been involved in a number of contentious disputes.  Claire recently advised a large utility client on a final account dispute with a total contract value of €9m.  The dispute proceeded to adjudication and Claire played a key role in drafting the adjudication documents and managing the process.

As a member of Quigg Golden’s training department, Claire also develops and delivers training programmes for clients and lectures on our in-house Law and Contract Management course and the Public Affairs Ireland Certificate in Public Procurement course.

Since joining Quigg Golden, he has also graduated with an honours degree in law.   Stephen is also an accredited Mediator.

Stephen is a lecturer on the Institution of Civil Engineers ‘Law and Contract Management’ course. He also has lectured for Engineers Ireland on the Public Works Contract (PWC) in Ireland, and in construction adjudication. As well as this Stephen provides bespoke contract training for Employers, Main Contractors and Subcontractors. He has extensive experience in providing advice and resolving disputes under PWC, RIAI, NEC and JCT standard forms, as well as under bespoke contracts.

Stephen specialises in risk assessing, drafting and running construction adjudications. Notable results include a c.£2.7m technical (“smash-and-grab”) adjudication (subsequently enforced in the High Court), and successfully defending a c.£1m subcontractor’ spurious claim for alleged variations.   He has had articles published including two of his own adjudication cases, which were successfully enforced by the High Court as can be seen: here  and here.

Stephen worked for a number of years in the West Australian mining industry on various infrastructure projects for a number of the world’s largest mining companies including Rio Tinto, BHP Billiton, FMG and Roy Hills.

His Irish construction experience includes working for Ireland’s largest Contractor on the redevelopment of the Spencer Dock city quarter in Dublin. His civils experience extends to the overlay of one of Ireland’s major roadways, and he was also an integral part of the survey team which topographically surveyed and digitised the rapid transport corridor for the greater Belfast area.  He is experienced in every stage of the construction process from survey and setting out, to final finishing.

Having worked on commercial, residential, retail and civil projects his approach to contentious matters is complimented by this site experience.

Dermot is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor and Barrister at Law (non-practicing) with over 30 years Construction Experience. During his career, Dermot has worked for Clients, Contractors and Sub-contractors and has extensive experience of Quantity Surveying, Procurement, Contract Administration and Project Management on large complex projects including pharmaceutical, data centers, power plants, medical and food projects.
