“A wide ranging and detailed perspective on all aspects of mediation including ethics and data protection. I have been mediating disputes with clients as their advisor since 2001 and I have learned a lot from this course”
Paul Jonson, Senior Partner, Pannone Corporate LLP, Manchester 2019

The influence of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), and mediation in particular, as the number one tool for dealing with business conflict and disputes is growing all the time and is expected to take on even more prominence over the coming years.

This intense 40-hour executive skills programme provides delegates with the opportunity to learn and develop the skills used by a mediator in order to understand how to avoid or resolve conflict within their organisation and within their wider commercial business activities. Successful completion of the programme leads to certification as an Accredited Civil & Commercial Mediator in accordance with the requirements of the UK Civil Mediation Council (CMC).

Course Objectives

As adult learners, delegates will receive training and practice their skills via role plays and class exercises.

Learning will include:

  • Introduction to Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and the ADR landscape
  • Introduction to the theory of conflict
  • Introduction to the psychology of conflict within the context of mediation
  • Understanding the role of the mediator
  • Learning, developing and applying skills required by a mediator including but not limited to communications, relationship and negotiation skills
  • How to create value when creating the deal

Course Outcomes

Delegates will be able to demonstrate that they have:

    • A rounded view of the world of ADR
    • Understood the role of the mediator in a civil and commercial context
    • Understood the role of the mediator in facilitating communications between the parties
    • Acquired the basic knowledge and skills a mediator needs and will be able to demonstrate their application of those skills in an assessed environment

Those delegates who do not wish to become an accredited mediator may attend days 1, 2 and 3 only and receive the Certificate in ADR.
