Download Publication

As amended, the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996, also known as the Construction Act or HGCRA, sets out a number of important legislative approaches to construction contracts, payments, and disputes.

This includes:

  • The definition of a “construction contract” in UK law;
  • The right to adjudication under a construction contract;
  • The right to payment by instalments, stage payments or other periodic payments under a construction contract;
  • The right to be informed of amounts due under a construction contract, or any amounts to be withheld; and
  • The right to suspend performance for non-payment.

Check out the previous letter in our ‘A-Z of Construction Law Contractual Terms’. The letter was ‘G’ and this represented ‘Guarantee‘.
